Who’s Viappi, and what’s this all about?
Let’s start with the nickname. “Viappi” has been around since my school days — a natural shortcut from Viappiani, and something that stuck through the years, travels, my email and even my signature. Guess what my Facebook page might be? Even before Facebook, when I launched my first blog Viappi Down Under during a long stay in Australia, the name felt obvious. The blog, of course, ended up half-finished and mostly photo-based (classic). But the idea of keeping a trace of things, projects, trips, tech experiments, never really left. As a friend of mine recently reminded me "At our age memory start to fail us. Better keep a written trace of everything", obviously he was talking about HIS age and HIS failing memory though, never the less, it will be nice to read it through in the coming years.
So now, viappi.com is my digital basecamp. A place to share a bit of everything I do: sailing, electronics, web development, and business projects from around the world. It’s not just a personal archive — it’s also where I showcase what I’ve done, what I’m working on, and what I can help with.
Professionally, I’ve worn a few hats: developer, systems consultant, IoT builder, and business manager — depending on the day (or year). I’ve worked with companies of all sizes, from niche manufacturers to global suppliers, across Europe, China, and Australia. Some days I'm coding in PHP and building out a Drupal platform. Others, I’m fixing boats, planning ocean passages, or prototyping IoT devices with an ESP32. I like switching gears — keeps things interesting.
This site also acts as a testing ground, an always-in-progress-mockup, for Drupal stuff I’m playing with. And yes, it’s hosted in the cloud (Google Cloud, mostly) so I can update it from wherever I’m anchored or caffeinated... with the benefits of doubts that I will have enough time and a proper internet connection.
Curious where I've sailed? I’ve logged over 50,000 NM — some of them cold, some stormy, all unforgettable. Want to collaborate? Got a project? Browse around and drop me a message.
Welcome aboard.
